How well is your site really doing?

A good way of checking performance is to try it out some of the 'tools' at a website like Alexa http://www.alexa.com - go to their Developers Corner section and indulge yourself (but be aware that they'll only return results from websites that have a decent amount of traffic).

If your results appear, not only can you see how popular your site is on a global and local scale but you can scroll down to see other trends such as Reach (the proportion of Internet users that visit your site), Page Views (i.e. how many pages of your site they visit) and in combination, the Rank (the combined popularity of your site) Alexa results aren't totally representative of every web user (they are skewed slightly towards geeks) but the results are very useful for comparisons if you try your own site versus competitors. Give it a go. And it may be interesting to compare performance with what you are being told is happening by your web developers or technicians!

How was it for you?

OK, if you've done this test in conjunction with reading our report into SEO scams, hopefully you now have a pretty good understanding of:

  • The differences between PPC and SEO
  • How PPC can be good to get instant traffic and fill in peaks and troughs in demand
  • But that SEO, whilst difficult to achieve, can deliver dramatically better ROI for your business.
  • And that SEO is a long-term investment, not gone when the budget has been spent.

And if you need to weed out the good from the bad PPC and SEO suppliers, SEO Brokers can assist you further at no cost or obligation to your business.

Get SEO right and extra sales enquiries will be beating a path to your door for your sales people, telephone staff or even your site itself to close for you. Get these things wrong or ignore them and you are handing business to your competitors.

A couple of final points to ponder.

  1. Once you start to get to grips with Internet Marketing it really is fun and a lot more to do with business positioning, marketing and strategy than it is to do with IT and geeks. So come on in, the water's warmer than it looks and SEO Brokers consultants are friendly and approachable!
  2. Prevarication is a really bad thing online. Google in particular takes history (and by that we mean history online) very seriously and it even factors it into its algorithms. What this means is that businesses that get started improving their online positioning now will probably have a permanent advantage over new competitors coming to the market later: plus of course you have that chance of earning trusted status.
